Guests of honor

Umicon’s guests will be arriving all the way from Japan! If you’d like to be among the first to find more about our guest announcements, just follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Umicon’s guests of honor can be met during autograph signing sessions. Additionally, guests will participate in their individual programming. You can read more information about guest of honor programming at the end of each guest description.

Arina Tanemura

Arina Tanemura is a shoujo mangaka whose career started back in 1997 with a manga called I.O.N. In the past eleven years, over half of her works have been translated to Finnish. Now she’s arriving in Finland to share some background on how these beloved series were created. Her current endeavors include the Japanese game IDOLiSH7 and a manga called Akuma ni Chic x Hack, which has yet to be translated to Finnish.

Tanemura will participate in talk show and autograph signing session.

Itaru Hinoue

Hinoue is an Art Director and illustrator from Osaka, Japan. She is also one of the founding members of the VisualArts studio Key. Visual novel and anime fans will recognize her from titles such as Air, Clannad, and Canon, for which she worked as an Art Director as well a an illustrator.

Hinoue has since retired from Key, but she is still working as a freelancer for various illustrating projects. Currently she is looking towards branching out to fantasy and horror games in particular! Hinoue will arrive in Umicon to tell us more about her work, as well as what the world of visual novels looks like from the professional perspective.

Kumi Tanioka

Hailing from Hiroshima, Tanioka Kumi is not only a skilled pianist but also a video game composer whose music is notable for combining various instruments from all over the world. Her greatest love is the piano, which is why the majority of all piano parts in her songs are played by Tanioka herself.

Tanioka began her career in video games in 1998, which was also the year she was made one of the top game musicians for Squaresoft (now Square Enix). After composing for Squaresoft / Square Enix for 15 years, Tanioka became a freelancer for the Square Enix Music record label. With a back catalogue of diverse compositions and arrangements for games, Tanioka's best known works can be found in the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. During her time as a freelancer she has also worked on music for Airship Q and arrangements for the game Super Smash Bros, among others.
At Umicon, we have the privilege of enjoying Tanioka's company in the form of a talk show and an autograph signing session. Additionally, we will get to enjoy Final Fantasy music during the opening and closing ceremonies.

REIKA

After receiving such a great response from the Finnish cosplay crowd at Animecon, REIKA returns as our guest – this time bringing along her most spectacular video game themed costumes (and bearing the Finnish winter!)

At Umicon, Reika will participate in a talk show focusing on Japanese cosplay culture and how it comes across in Japan from a foreigner’s perspective. REIKA will also present an autograph signing session.
